#VOTMNews: A Quantum Law Update ~ How One Book Became Two

After setting Quantum Law aside for a couple of months, I’ve returned to it to make some encouraging progress on it. Why did I set it aside for so long? Because one of my best Beta readers told me he thought he saw three stories where I had written one.

At first, the feedback rattled me. Did I rush the story? Did I not take the proper time to think it through and develop it properly? How much surgery did it need? Will a rewrite end up adding subplots that turn into fluff and padding? And of course, do I have the energy and time to do all this, or should I let the story sit, as is?

Well, I couldn’t contemplate all that, and for kickers, I had some deadlines to meet for my other series. I took time to focus on those, and recently returned to Quantum Law to see what I could do with it. I’m so glad I did!

Time and separation yielded some good fruit. In the course of the last two weeks, I have split the story into two full length novels. OK, so I don’t necessarily agree there were three stories, but I certainly uncovered two! The subplots I added (including two new major characters I fell in love with!) did not turn into padding at all. Rather, they became an integral part of the story, in fact making the story flow and climax for each book more plausible and natural. They also added a dimension and richness to the overall world fabric that I’m really digging.

Now nearly done with the second book, I am almost ready to get some Beta reader help to see how well each book and the overall narrative holds together, while ensuring each book stands on its own as a viable, complete story.
